She's come a long way, baby.

When we were little, Dani was always a pretty forceful and determined little thing. If she did something, she did it. She had a huge hand made doll house filled with little felt Sylvania animals. They were always perfectly in place all in their respective rooms, living their respective little Sylvanian lives. Her bedroom walls were always filled with medals and trophies of things she had won. She had a 4.0 for as long as I can remember. Probably from birth. And she refused to be any kind of "arts" major in college because the grading was too subjective. Black and white. Lines drawn in the sand. A way to gauge her success. That's what she needed. :) Hence, the reason she chose the medical field after college. And after years and years and endless hours of studying and taking board exams, she finally accepted the first job of her career today at Ben Taub General Hospital in Houston. The position is in Neurosurgery and she is supervising 4 other Research Fellows in her department.

How crazy is that. My sister is going to have her hands in other people's brains. She says she feels "unprepared." Well, I guess so! I don't know that one, no matter how many degrees or how much studying, could ever really feel prepared to cut into someone's skull and try to fix their brain for the first time.

So it begins. And with the new job comes the apartment in the high rise downtown. And all the new furniture. But mostly just paying off student loans is what she says.

So maybe that time when she was 3 and walked smiling into the kitchen with an empty bottle of my perfume saying, "I drink it!" was just her entrance into the medical research field. I guess we should have known then. :)

Good job, little sister.
